We are pleased to announce that Caine has joined us from our sister company, 'VEA Automotive'. Caine has always expressed an interest in the alloy wheel refurbishment process and was keen to join the wheel refinishing team and learn about the powder coating process. The basics of the powder coating process are as follows; • We start by removing the wheel from the vehicle. All will need to come off when refurbing a complete set of wheels. • Next, we clean and degrease each wheel with a specialist cleaning agent and some elbow grease. • The next stage is sandblasting the wheel to remove and loosen more challenging deposits. •We then sand the wheel to ensure all debris has been cleared off the surface. • Again we apply cleaner and degrease the rim for a second time. • The wheel is then heated in an industrial oven to release gases that can cause imperfections in the final finish. •The powder coating is applied to the wheel in a spray gun • The wheel is then returned to the oven until the powder forms a gel-like consistency over the surface. • We then apply a coat of lacquer, then the wheel is heat treated and left to set. • The final step is to rebalance the wheel and tyre and fit it back onto the vehicle.
