Expert Tires, Tire Repair and Maintenance in Formby

This week I have had 3 caravan jobs as our caravan owners start to prepare their vans for the early Easter break. A lot of caravan insurers insist that the tyres on caravans are no older than 5 years old.This date is easily visible on the tyre wall and is a set of 4 numbers. e.g if it says 2123 then the tyre was manufactured in week 21 year 2023 (see photo below). Although there may well be plenty of tread on the tyres, the reason the insurers insist on 5 year maximum age on tyres is that the tyre walls can start to crack with age due to the fact that they are sat on one point on the tyre for months on end so compromising the safety of the tyre. One of my customers has a 4 wheel, double axle caravan and I was gutted to realise that he has tyron bands fitted in his wheels. These are every tyre fitters headache. They double the length of time to do the job. However, as per my last caravan post I do not charge extra for wheels with tyron bands in them. I think I must be the only tyre fitter in the country who is stupid enough to remove and refit tyron bands for no extra charge when changing tyres. A tyron band is a steel band that fits into the well of the wheel. If you were to suffer a puncture or even a blow out, you could still drive to a point where you could pull over and ring for help.
