Ford Fiesta, I was called out to a Ford Fiesta, the bloke on the phone first rang me saying that he had hit the curb and the car was making a grinding noise coming from the n/s/front wheel ,well when I got to the car ,i got underneath to inspect the vehicle,,,,,,,, well I've been a mechanic for 35 years I've never seen this happen before in all this time , ive seen ball joints break off completely, leading to drivesaft poppping out of gearbox side , what actually happened was he had hit curb and the ball joint ,had popped out of the ball joint retaining clamp, straight past the cotter pin ,the reason behind this was that ,in my opinion the holes and road surfaces are that bad ,(many drivers would've Experienced this ) the road over time had forced ball joint past retaining pin ,flattening out each side of joint retaining clamp ,Usually, it would just break ball joint off and leave it left in socket or bend wishbone ,so ,yes I managed to put it all back together on side of road put drive shaft back in ,put ball joint back in socket, although ball joint was worn ,this was a temporary fix meaning that the drives haft gaiter was split and this would need replacing Along with either a ball joint kit or if garage wanted to save hassle of cutting the rivits off ball joint they could replace faster by ,replacing the whole wishbone along with new bolts and new gaiter for shaft once he got back home to where he was from ,also had damaged brake disc new pads n discs required...
